I recently watched Keanu Reeves’ film The Day the Earth Stood Still. This movie was released in the year 2008, which means that this year the picture has completed 15 years.

However, The Day the Earth Stood Still is an adaptation of another cinema released in 1951 with the same name.

Apart from Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Connelly and Jaden Smith (son of Will Smith) also played prominent roles.

The Day the Earth Stood Still- Plot

The Day the Earth Stood Still

The Earth is suffering because of human-made industries, structures, and other unnatural things, and the worst thing is no one is even aware of it.

In such circumstances, to save the Earth from us, a spaceship appears. Klaatu (we can call him Chief) is a more advanced civilization than humans.

A group of Scientists, the Army, and the defense ministry are trying to figure out what’s this ‘Man who is an alien’ purpose.

Performance

Keanu Reeves- a straight-faced man with zero expression. Although, you cannot take your eyes off him.

Jennifer played the role of a scientist trying hard to convince Klaatu to stop the destruction because humans can change.

Jaden’s appearance as a child artist was commendable. As if he learned acting from his mother’s foetus.

Writing and Direction

The Day the Earth Stood Still is directed by Scott Derrickson famous for directing Doctor Strange, The Black Phone, and many more. David Scarpa wrote the screenplay.

My Perception

The Day the Earth Stood Still

I believe that the concept was extraordinary but the execution was not convincing.

When the story begins, it appears that by the climax, everything created by people throughout the planet will be destroyed in order to make a fresh beginning. However, nothing like this occurs, the one who was here to destroy stopped everything.

I might be sounding like a sadist right now, but I am not. Whatever film I’ve watched that has created on destruction, still its ending has always been positive. Even when everything has ended, there remains a fresh morning in which the leftover species can begin anew.

Whenever I watched disastrous movies, it seemed that Shiva kept one foot and an era got completed, but there was nothing like this in The Day the Earth Stood Still.

In fact, there is not even a sign of a better climax. I felt like an idiot by the end. That’s why this movie is unable to satisfy your mind.

For Me, I would never recommend anyone watch it but it’s up to you.
