Yesterday I watched a web series with an excellent storyline “Kaala Paani” that has been released on Netflix. It involves Ashutosh Gowariker, Mona Singh, Amey Wagh, Radhika Mehrotra, Sukant Goel, Arushi Sharma, and Vikas Kumar like many stalwarts. The series consists of 7 episodes.

Kaala Paani Review
Kaala Paani- The Plot

The story is set in the year 2027 in Andaman and Nicobar Islands where people are gradually getting afflicted due to a mysterious bacterium in the water. However, initially, only 11-plagued people have come forward, that’s why everything LOOKED under control till then.
The obstinate and over-talented Dr. Singh (Mona Singh), on the other hand, is not taking the situation lightly. She also does not want the Swaraj Mahotsav to be conducted at Port Blair, but corrupt IPS officer Ketan Sharma (Amey Wagh), who wants to return to the mainland, cannot afford the cancellation of an annual fest at any cost because a big businessman Saurabh Wani (Rajesh Khattar) is behind it.
As a result, Ketan must try to persuade Dr. Singh first with love and then with threats. When she refuses to listen to him then Ketan influences Lieutenant Governor Admiral Zibran Qadri (Ashutosh Gowarikar) to seek Dr. Singh for a valid reason to halt the Mahotsav and Dr. Singh grants medical approval.
Chiranjeevi (Sukant Goel), a travel guide and a smuggler, finds a Bihari family who wants to visit Neil Island. Hearing this, he offers them a 30% discount so he can do his own activities in the background.
On the other hand, tribal welfare people are raising slogans in support of the Oraka community because Saurabh Wani’s company ‘Atom’ is chopping down forests for its own profit.
This is a little sneak peek of the first episode. The story is enthralling. Yes, the episode crawls in the middle but you will remain hooked to the series till the end.
Performance
Mona Singh: A powerful character who is underutilized by the creators of Kaala Paani. However, her limited screen timing is justified.
Ashutosh Gowarikar: Film Lagaan’s director has given an excellent acting performance under the direction of Samir Saxena.
Amy Wagh: He played a corrupt police officer extremely effectively, but he has yet to break free from his previous web series Asur’s character.
Sukant Goel: Whatever an actor wants in his character, Sukant has everything. A selfish, dishonest, cruel character who later turns vulnerable, empathetic, and helpful, and puts others ahead of himself.
Other supporting actors have performed well in their roles which include actors like Rajesh Khattar, Radhika Mehrotra, Aarushi Sharma, Vikas Kumar, etc.
Screenplay and Dialogue

This is the writing that I am always looking forward to. Each episode’s title is completely appropriate. Kudos to Biswapati Sarkar (lead writer of the show) along with Amit Golani, Nimisha Misra, and Sandeep Saket.
One thing that I personally love about Biswapati Sarkar’s writing is showing the Bihari family so efficiently. Never seen such an authentic characterization of a Bihari or Bihari family before.
Kaala Paani- Best Dialogue
The real wall of that black water is outside … and it is not made of bricks but of water. (“Us kaala paani ki asli diwaar to bahar hai…or woh eeton se nahi Paani se bani hai.”)
Lieutenant Governor Admiral Zibran Qadri- “Andaman and Nicobar, In KBC last season, this was the answer to the 25 lakh question!
(“Lieutenant Governor Admiral Zibran Qadri-Andaman and Nicobar, kbc ke pichle season mein 25 lakh ke sawaal ka jawab tha.”)
Man is the result of change… and the one who changes himself with the circumstances… is considered to be the fittest… and the fittest always survive.
(“Insaan badlav ka nateeja hai..aur jo khud ko halat ke sath badalta hai..they are considered to be the fittest.. and the fittest always survive.”)
Direction

Sameer Saxena is best known for directing the TVF web series Pitchers, and Yeh Meri Family has done an excellent job with Kaala Paani. The screenplay has been professionally directed and delivered to us.
Some scenes stay with me for a period of time for sure –
When the waiter is pouring water into the Lieutenant Governor’s glass during a meeting at the beginning of the third episode, he stops the waiter when the glass is even less than half. This shows that only in crises, do people learn to use their resources bare minimum as required.
The series’ last sequence was stunning since they introduced it with a survival of the fittest voiceover. I still cannot get the thought out of my head.
My Perception
I believe people should watch this series. There are several reasons for this, including the superb storyline and syntax, the opportunity to see something new, and, most significantly, the depiction of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the series.
There is nothing more magnificent than this. While watching this series, I had the impression that I, too, wanted to dwell in this Kaala Paani. The cinematography was outstanding. Whatever locales were portrayed – whether islands, forests, mountains, the people who live there, or a road with no traffic. Everything was so stunning that I didn’t even blink to avoid missing any of the sequences.
I feel that TVF should immediately begin tutoring in screenplay and direction and so-called FAMOUS celebs directors and writers should be trained to direct and write so that they do not squander our time and money from all the tedious and monotonous work.
