Little Miss Sunshine Movie Review: For those who don’t even aware of the name, it is a 2006 comedy drama movie. This is a character driven tale which leads to a not-so-perfect family.

The tale of Little Miss Sunshine

This is the story of the Hoovers family. Sheryl Hoover (Toni Collette), an Albuquerque resident who brings her brother Frank (Steve Carell), a scholar; to home from the hospital after he attempts suicide. Sheryl has a son from her previous marriage, Dwayne (Paul Dano); who aspires to be a fighter pilot has taken a vow of silence. Yes, it sounds weird but he has not spoken a SINGLE word for the last 9 months.

And now, the head of the family, Richard (Greg Kinnear) – Sheryl’s husband – is struggling to build a career as a motivational speaker and a life coach. Edwin (Alan Arkin), – Richard’s foul-mouthed father – has become a heroin addict after his retirement.

And at the last but definitely not the least, is our Olive, – Richard and Sheryl’s cute-little- bespectacled and ambitious 7-year-old daughter – who aspires to be a beauty queen and mentored by her grandfather. Now there is a conflict between each of them but that’s what makes this story even more interesting because.

Olive (Abigail Breslin) has qualified for the Little Miss Sunshine beauty pageant and has been invited to compete, which will be held in Redondo Beach, California (Approximately 700 miles from Albuquerque) but Sheryl and Richard can’t afford flight fares So?

Here comes my favourite part: They decide to head out on a road trip in a mini-old yellow bus. Now, you will embark on a roller-coaster ride with this family and the climax will be something you would have never imagined in your wildest dream.

Performance

As a family, all the characters have looked appropriate in their respective roles, no one was seen over-acting, but actress Abigail Breslin, who plays the Titular character, has performed excellently as a child artist.

The film depicts persons of all ages to whom you can relate. Father Hoover has reached an age when he requires stability, for which he is working hard, but ironically, failed to implement his life coaching plan in his own life. Mother Hoover is trying her hardest to keep the family together. Grandpa Hoover is now at the age where he will die anytime so, living his remaining life to the fullest.

Uncle Frank, on the other hand, is unable to accept his failure. Brother Hoover, like all teenage boys, believes that everyone is stupid and deserves to be hated. Now comes our darling little Olive Hoover, who has carried dreams in her glittering eyes and, like her grandfather, lives a pleasant life, free of stress, as most kids should do.

All the characters were effortlessly defined by the writer Michael Arndt and that’s what I love the most about this picture.

Directed by a couple, Valerie Faris and Jonathan Dayton the plot moved at a constant pace, with no breaks in continuity. There came a moment when the gear of his ancestor’s-like cute-old-mini yellow van was not working properly and the vehicle needed to be pushed to start. It can only be turned on when it is at speed. So, all of them have to catch it by running. This was maintained till the very end.

Why one should watch Little Miss Sunshine?

(Spoiler Alert)

Some of the serious messages depicted in the film were conveyed as metaphors – the first of which was the malfunction of van’s gear. Due to gear problems, Self-centered Richard, sitting on the driving seat and cannot move forward without the help of his family. He needs a push to start the van every single time.

The second, was breaking the barrier twice due to the lack of speed control. This was the best metaphor because it felt like a liberation from bondage.

As previously stated, the climax is another reason to watch Little Miss Sunshine. The entire movie is on one side and the film’s conclusion is on the other. After watching it, you will feel an incredible sense of accomplishment, which is rarely seen in today’s cinema.

It is not always essential to use sophisticated words and large expressions to describe a story. In fact, you can convey the message by telling your experience in simple expressions.

If I have been able to convince you in so many words then watch this picture on Disney Plus Hot Star. Please leave a comment to let us know how you felt about it.
