Priyadarshan started writing during college itself
Born on 30 January 1957, Priyadarshan completed his schooling at the Government Model School, Trivandrum. He earned a Master of Arts degree in philosophy. His father was a college librarian. It was because of his father that Priyadarshan got interested in books. He was an avid reader during his teenage years and started writing short plays and skits for All India Radio during his studies in college.
Career started with the help of Mohanlal
Priyadarshan felt affected by the films that P Venu directed. Mohanlal, MG Sreekumar, Suresh Kumar, Sanal Kumar, Jagadish, Maniyanpila Raju, and Ashok Kumar were among his pals back then.
With the help of Mohanlal, Priyadarshan got the opportunity to work as an assistant scriptwriter in some films and started writing scripts, which also achieved some success. Eventually, he had to come back to Kerala.
Gave 40 years of life to the industry
Priyadarshan has been working as a director and scriptwriter in Indian cinema for the last 40 years. He has directed more than 95 films mainly in 4 Indian languages Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, and Telugu. Do you know that Priyadarshan is one of the first directors in India who introduced rich color grading, clear sound, and quality dubbing through his early Malayalam films.
Took a break from Bollywood
Priyadarshan started his career in Malayalam cinema in the early 1980s and was active in the 1980s and 1990s. He moved to Bollywood (Hindi film industry) in the 2000s and remained active throughout the decade. In 2013, he announced that ‘Rangrej’ would be his last Hindi film for some time and focused on Malayalam cinema. His best films include ‘Maja Payyunnu Maddalam Kottunnu’, ‘Thalavattam’, ‘Vellankalude Naadu’, ‘Chitram’, ‘Vandanam’, ‘Kilukkam’, ‘Abhimanyu’, ‘Mithunam’, ‘Thenmavin Kombath’, ‘Kala Paani’. And ‘Chandralekha’ is included.
Talking about Bollywood, he made a comeback in the year 2021 with ‘Hungama 2’, but this film could not do anything special. Let us tell you that Priyadarshan has been awarded Padma Shri and three National Awards.
Relationship broke after 16 years of marriage
Talking about personal life, Priyadarshan married actress Lissy Lakshmi on 13 December 1990. However, their relationship broke down in 2016 and the couple got divorced. They have two children Kalyani and Siddharth.
