‘Khamoshi’ becomes a milestone for Black

In the 90s, director Sanjay Leela Bhansali was preparing to enter the industry. This idea came to his mind while directing his first film ‘Khamoshi: The Musical’.

During the filming, he met many children who were physically disabled and decided to show them on the big screen.

Inspired by the life of Helen Keller, Bhansali announced the production of his project ‘Black’ in 2003 and completely prepared and released the film in 2005.

In 2005, ‘Black’ was ranked fifth on Time Europe’s prestigious list of the 10 Best Films of All Time, a testament to the universality of the film’s themes and how Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s vision managed to connect with audiences around the world. Big B did not take any fees for the film

Amitabh Bachchan has contributed to Hindi cinema for many decades and he holds a special place in the hearts of his fans.

The megastar had once revealed that he was so impressed with Bhansali’s work that he did not take any money for ‘Black’.

He said, ‘After seeing all the other works done by Bhansali, I just wanted to work with him and when the opportunity came, it was quite amazing.

I did not take any charge for the film. Just being a part of such an industry was fee enough.

There was a fire on the set

In 2004, during the filming of ‘Black’, a massive fire broke out on the set, due to which all the equipment related to the film was destroyed and some of the crews were also injured.

Amitabh Bachchan had earlier said that he and Rani Mukherjee were going to the sets when this incident happened.

Both the stars decided to stand by Sanjay Leela Bhansali during this difficult time and agreed to re-shoot all the destroyed scene assets.
