The film ‘Bhakshak’ is reminiscent of the Muzaffarpur Shelter Home rape case of Bihar that came to light in the year 2018, although the film’s director Pulkit believes that the events shown in this film are only the incident of Muzaffarpur Shelter Home rape case of Bihar. Actress Bhumi Pednekar, who is playing the role of a sharp-tongued journalist in the film ‘Bhakshak’, says, “Such incidents are read in the newspapers every second month. This incident in someone’s life becomes just a piece of news for us. These incidents are happening with such girls, who have no one behind them. Such stories are part of my life. When I was shooting for the film ‘Sonchiriya’, I adopted an ashram in Chambal. The girl who played the character of Khushi in that film is from that ashram. I have been working in this field for the last five years.”
After the film ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’, Bhumi Pednekar is once again sharing the screen with Sanjay Mishra in the film ‘Bhakshak’.
She says, ‘Sanjay Mishra is a lucky charm for me, the people who are associated with your life at the beginning of your career are very special to you. When Gaurav Verma (producer of the film) told me that Sanjay Mishra was in the film, I was very excited to work with him once again. He is the only person in the film who understands what I want to do.
The film ‘Bhakshak’ has been directed by Pulkit. He says, ‘The events shown in this film are not inspired by any one incident. Many such incidents in the country have been shown in this film. Hopefully, this film will bring change somewhere. I feel sad when such incidents happen at my house, but why don’t I feel sad if this happens with other girls? This thought inspired me to make this film. I have met many such girls who have been victims of this incident.
The film ‘Bhakshak’ is produced by Gauri Khan and Gaurav Verma under Shahrukh Khan’s production of Red Chillies. Apart from Bhumi Pednekar and Sanjay Mishra, Aditya Srivastava and Sai Tamhankar are in the lead roles in this film.
The film’s director Pulkit says, ‘Through the film ‘Bhakshak’ we aim to show the harsh realities of the society. To promote conversations that bring change. I am hoping for more people to join in. This film will be released on OTT platform Netflix on 9 February 2024.
