Killer Soup Review: When giants like Abhishek Chaubey, Manoj Bajpayee, and Konkona Sen Sharma together prepare a South Indian dish called Paaya Soup made up of Chicken leg, and it becomes ‘Killer Soup’.

What is its real masala, the audience comes to know in the last episode of the series, but how this eight-episode series keeps cooking on slow flame, is becoming a special characteristic of Abhishek Chaubey’s cinema.

Abhishek Chaubey has done amazing studies regarding cinema. He has narrated its pictures, norms, and attitudes so well that they can be seen in every frame when his stories are examined through the lens of a camera.

Abhishek Chaubey had earlier made a story of the film ‘Ray’ starring Manoj Bajpayee and Gajraj Rao for Netflix.

Let’s see what Abhishek Chaubey has decorated on the platter this time in Killer Soup.

Killer Soup Review

The Plot

Killer Soup

The series is also somewhat ‘different’ in the sense that its character Shetty speaks Marathi all of the occurrences happen in a southern city, and all of the police officers talk in their native language.

He speaks to other characters in the story in broken Hindi. It is a good experiment of cinema to speak the language of the background of the characters. But, this series of Abhishek Chaubey is like its last dialogue.

Direction

Abhishek’s directorial art in this series is like that of a well-learned director. Instead of making the story interesting, Abhishek wants to show the excellence of his direction in the series, due to which entertainment part left behind.

Performance

Killer Soup

This is Manoj Bajpayee’s first presentation of the year. He appears in the series as both Prabhakar Shetty and Umesh Mahato. The real Prabhakar Shetty is in the story for a while. Then the story’s ‘Manisha Koirala’ brings her lover Umesh Mahato in his place.

The police understand this mystery till the last episode, but keeping oneself connected with whatever happens during this period is no less than a challenge for a common viewer. Instead of being a hero, Manoj Bajpayee’s character here is that of a victim whose both character are being beaten at the hands of circumstances.

The result is not good because the audience watches the series for Manoj Bajpayee and the series fails to showcase his acting ability to its fullest.

Konkana Sen Sharma’s character in ‘Killer Soup’ is the center point of the story. Her character was working as a nurse in a hospital, then she first gets into a business family and then brings her old lover with her. However, her character would have been a little more interesting.

She hatches conspiracies with her niece. She has been pushing her son away from all the happenings. She is the factor in most of the deaths in the story, but by the epilogue, she is close to losing everything. The song ‘Tu Hi Re’ from the film ‘Bombay’ is the source of expression of love between Swati and Umesh.

But, in stories where the reality of the characters is already known and how other characters in the story succeed in revealing this reality, it becomes very boring to watch when the script is very scattered.

Konkona Sen Sharma has worked very hard to portray this character in Killer Soup.

Background Music

Killer Soup

The series’ soundtrack appeared suspenseful at first, but as the series seemed loose and more boring, the attention started getting diverted from the music too.

Overall, the series is worth watching. However, more great films and series are going to be released this week. Instead of Killer Soup, you can watch other series or movies.
